[ Video ] Mutual conversion of decibel value and true value
Circuit Design's dB calculation tool is a versatile tool for calculating voltage and power in a fixed impedance system (selectable from 50, 75 and 600 ohm). The input and output values can be in ordinary units or dB units. It is also possible to convert between different unit types such as milli.
The decibel unit plays an important role in RF engineering as it allows us to represent graphically, the multiplicative increase in RF quantities such as power and voltage which operate more in line with the human senses.
The decibel unit is named after Alexander Graham Bell and describes the increase or decrease of a value over a reference value and does so multiplicatively. For example a value that is twice as high is expressed as a 3 dB increase (in case of power) or 6 dB (in case of voltage).
